Job Description: Nurse Supervisor, RN
Location: Worcester, MA
(Pay rate based on years licensed as an RN)
Position Objective
To assist the Director of Nursing in planning, organizing, developing, and directing the day-to-day functions of the Nursing Department in compliance with federal and state standards, guidelines, and regulations. The Unit Manager serves as a key member of the LTC Nursing Department’s management team, with 24-hour responsibility for managing the unit. This includes oversight of shift clinical resident care, staff management, personnel relations, visitor services, and support to other departments during evening and night hours.
Key Responsibilities
Manage unit operations around the clock, ensuring high-quality clinical care and resident services.
Supervise nursing staff, facilitate personnel relations, and address workplace concerns promptly.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, OSHA, JCAHO standards, and facility policies.
Serve as the primary point of contact for clinical, staffing, and resident concerns during assigned shifts.
Participate in on-call rotation, responding to facility needs during weekends, holidays, and emergencies.
Collaborate with the Director of Nursing and Assistant Director of Nursing by reporting concerns and updates in a timely manner.
Support training, clinical supervision, and department meetings as required.
Assist in ensuring visitor services and resident experience meet organizational standards.
Position Requirements
Current and valid Massachusetts RN license.
Minimum of 3–5 years nursing experience in a skilled nursing facility.
At least 3 years of supervisory or management experience in long-term care preferred.
CPR certification required.
Solid knowledge of state and federal guidelines, OSHA regulations, JCAHO standards, and facility policies.
Understanding of care needs specific to the aged population.
Ability to manage a physically demanding and high-stress work environment with 24-hour accountability.
Work Hours and Schedule Expectations
Supervise all shift operations, personnel issues, and clinical concerns with timely reporting to management.
Participate in regular weekend and holiday on-call rotation, including answering calls and potentially covering nursing shifts due to staffing shortages.
Typical schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with additional shifts for training, meetings, or clinical supervision.
Prepared to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Responsible for covering unit shortages during call-outs when no other staff is available.
Expected to work past normal shift hours during staffing shortages or emergencies.
Participate in nursing department on-call rotation and respond to emergency staffing needs.
Current Massachusetts RN license with 3–5 years skilled nursing experience
Long term care expirence
Minimum 3 years supervisory experience preferred
CPR certification
Knowledge of state/federal guidelines and aged care needs
