Description

Seeking a Biostatistician to work for a medical facility in Jamaica, NY. This position is working onsite Monday - Friday. Salary $70-85k depending upon experience.
Position Overview / Summary
• Assists Research Education and Innovation (REI) program director by:
o Ensuring that regulatory and accreditation standards are met as pertaining to research by assisting individuals with the completion of their research requirements
o Serving as a clinical research consultation liaison to facilitate the development, implementation, and execution of IRB-approved research projects
o Delivering didactics supporting a research method focused curriculum across departments
• Provides a wide range of advanced statistical expertise, guidance, and support to those within the hospital network (both clinical and non-clinical) engaged in health sciences related research projects.
• Conduct lectures teaching those undergoing graduate medical education within the MediSys Health Network about various aspects of research, including how to develop a research question, how to conduct a literature review, how to choose an appropriate research study design, applied statistical methods, data organization, data interpretation, and other applicable skills.
• Participate in the design, development, and reporting of research studies.
• Collects, analyzes and interprets biological and health science data across multiple research entities in the Health System.
• Responds to a broad range of complex statistical issues arising in a variety of health science research settings.
• Demonstrates problem solving, decision-making skills, organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Requires independent judgment and ability to handle stressful situations and highly confidential information.
• Occasionally after hours, evening and/or weekend work required.
Duties and Responsibilities

Resident Activities
• Design, analyze, implement, and report findings on targeted statistical research studies.
• Conduct lectures for residents and other individuals within the MediSys Health Network about research topics including but not limited to:
o How to develop a research question
o How to conduct a literature review
o How to write up a case report/clinical vignette
o How to choose an appropriate research study design
o Applied statistical methods
o Data organization
o Data interpretation
• Develop and evaluate new and existing resident training materials/lectures as needed.
• Assist in writing, editing, revising, and submitting resident:
o Posters
o Conference abstracts
o Manuscripts
• Assist with interpretation of evaluation studies and research, including writing concise summaries of activities and findings.
• Provide consultation to investigators and researchers on experimental design and statistical research approaches, requirements, and scientific standards to advance medical knowledge and improve research in public health.
• Advise as to the choice of statistical analysis strategies, reliability of measurements and identifiability of models, and interpretation and presentation of statistical results.
• Provide general assistance to residents including the preparation and submission of research manuscripts, case reports, conference abstracts, and conference poster presentations.
• Provide general assistance to residents with medical writing.

Program
• Attend specialty-specific meetings, if required by department or residency program.
• Maintain and follow a calendar of REI didactic lecture/journal club scheduling with all residency programs.
• Regularly review the REI calendar of relevant conference submission deadlines and keep residency directors/coordinators and residents abreast of approaching deadlines via email.

Data Management and Analyses
• Plan and document computer data file structure.
• Develop, program, manage, and maintain complex statistical databases.
• Perform or supervise data entry.
• Use a variety of advanced statistical software, methods, and techniques to gather, analyze, and interpret research data to derive useful information for research data.
• Advise and assist in the development of inferences and conclusions, as appropriate.
• Maintain knowledge of current and emerging trends in statistical analysis methodology.

Collaboration
• Build and sustain collaborative relationships with individuals in different disciplines and serve as subject-matter experts for research teams, internal and external committees, and other constituencies and collaborators.
• Work with investigators to formalize analysis plans and report specifications.
• Assist in the preparation of various research documents and reports, protocols, investigator brochures, scientific abstracts, peer-reviewed manuscripts, and responds to requests from local Institutional Review Board and other health authorities.
• Oversee and coordinate the work of support staff, data entry staff, and/or students, as appropriate to the position, on a project, site, or operational basis.

Requirements

Job Qualifications
• Master’s degree or equivalent required.
• At least 1 year of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
• At least 1 year of experience teaching applied statistics and/or research methods.
• Working knowledge of medicine, health sciences, behavioral sciences, or a related field.
• Experience or strong interest in scientific publishing
• Experience creating and editing visual representations of data to communicate insights to a variety of audiences, through MS Office and/or other data visualization software (e.g., R, Python).
• Knowledge of research methodologies, statistical analysis, and statistical/scientific computing.
• Experience participating/contributing to research projects.
• Experience mentoring/lecturing students on research-related topics.
• Experience interacting with individuals at various levels within an institution.
