Informatics Nursing
Nurses employed as Informatics specialists track information using spreadsheets and reports. These nurses must be comfortable with facts, figures, spreadsheets and databases. Reports must be professional looking as many of these will be distributed throughout the facility and submitted to State and Federal reporting agencies. These statistics are used in-house to track infection control, monitor nurse to patient ratios, the number of beds in the facility, the number of occupied beds at any given time, seasonal statistics, budgets, compliance with rules and regulations of licensing bodies, education programs and project future trends based on history and date-specific compliance standards. Nurses in this role must be comfortable using computers and software and stay abreast of the latest technological developments in healthcare. These nurses will sit on management committees and their reports will be used by several different departments throughout the facility. Strict and accurate recordkeeping is required in this nursing position.
