Conduct initial health assessments and routine screenings on newly admitted inmates.

Provide direct patient care including medication administration, wound care, chronic disease management, and emergency response.

Monitor and document inmate health conditions and respond appropriately to urgent or emergent situations.

Collaborate with physicians, mental health professionals, and correctional staff to develop and implement individualized care plans.

Educate inmates on health maintenance and disease prevention.

Maintain accurate and confidential medical records in compliance with HIPAA and facility standards.

Ensure infection control protocols and safety procedures are followed.

Participate in case reviews, audits, and training programs as required.

Respond to and document incidents, injuries, or other health-related emergencies within the facility.

Correctional Nurse Requirements – Summary
Education: LPN diploma or RN degree (ADN or BSN).

License: Active LPN or RN license in the state of employment.

Certifications: BLS (required); ACLS or CPR for Healthcare Providers (preferred).

Experience: Preferred in corrections, psych, ER, or public health; new grads may be accepted.

Skills: Strong clinical judgment, emergency response, communication, and ability to work in a secure environment.

Other: Background check, drug screening, immunizations, and physical exam required.
