Occupational / Industrial Nursing Nursing

Nurses working in occupational health may be full-time or part-time on site nurses for businesses such as a manufacturing plant. The nurse may be an employee of the business or an independent contractor, and therefore able to set their own working hours. These nurses will perform simple assessments of injured workers, track vaccination requirements of employees and complete routine first aid measures for simple injuries. The nurse in this role enjoys a high degree of autonomy in their work and must have confidence in their ability to provide medical care without reliance on a medical doctor. In an emergency situation, the nurse will coordinate the care of the employee until the time that emergency medical services arrives. The occupational health nurse is responsible for tracking medical supply use and ordering of new supplies. A great deal of record keeping is involved in this type of nursing, and occupational nurses must be well organized and detail oriented individuals.
