About the Role

RWJBarnabas Health is seeking experienced and compassionate nurse leaders to join our team as Assistant Directors of Patient Care across multiple specialties and hospital locations throughout New Jersey. This is a leadership opportunity for Registered Nurses (RNs) looking to make a meaningful impact on patient care delivery and nursing team performance.

Position Summary

The Assistant Director of Patient Care is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a clinical unit within an acute care setting. This role supports frontline staff, ensures high standards of patient-centered care, and contributes to ongoing departmental improvement initiatives.

Typical Responsibilities Include:

Providing day-to-day clinical and operational leadership to nursing staff
Managing staffing levels and organizing shift coverage as needed
Leading initiatives to improve unit efficiency, patient outcomes, and service delivery
Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to optimize care
Ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory standards
Supporting quality improvement plans and staff development programs
Fostering a culture of clinical excellence, accountability, and compassion

Required Qualifications:

Active RN License (New Jersey or multistate compact license)
BLS Certification (Basic Life Support)
BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) required
Minimum 3 years of clinical experience in the relevant specialty or unit
Strong clinical knowledge and commitment to evidence-based practice

Preferred Qualifications:

MSN (Master of Science in Nursing) strongly preferred
Prior nurse leadership or management experience highly desirable
Specialty certifications may be required depending on unit (e.g., CCRN, CEN, etc.)
