The Pediatric or Family Nurse Practitioner (PNP/FNP) delivers comprehensive pediatric care across both primary and urgent care settings. Responsibilities include well-child visits, acute illness and injury management, chronic disease care, and patient/family education. The NP works collaboratively with physicians and the healthcare team to provide high-quality, family-centered care in a flexible and patient-focused environment.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Perform well-child exams, developmental screenings, and anticipatory guidance
Evaluate, diagnose, and treat common pediatric conditions and injuries
Prescribe and manage medications and treatment plans
Order and interpret diagnostic tests and screenings
Document patient encounters accurately in the EMR
Educate families on diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and home care
Promote vaccination compliance and follow CDC guidelines
Collaborate with interdisciplinary staff for coordinated patient care
Manage patient communications, prescription refills, and lab follow-up
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical meetings
Required Qualifications
Master’s or Doctorate in Nursing from an accredited NP program
Valid Nurse Practitioner license in the State of Virgina
Board Certification as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner (CPNP-PC) or Family NP with pediatric experience
DEA registration with active prescriptive authority
BLS and PALS certifications
Minimum 2–3 years of pediatric outpatient or urgent care experience preferred
Proficiency in EMR systems and clinical documentation
